CONQUERing Collaboration: The Power of Saying Yes

It can be easy to get comfortable in your routine. To skate through life unnoticed, never taking any risks. To Use the word "no" as a crutch and isolate from the world.

While there's not necessarily anything wrong with staying in your comfort zone, you can end up missing out on great opportunities and experiences that make life feel fuller. There is great power in saying yes.

If you're someone who struggles to take chances and aren't sure how to step out of your comfort zone, this post is for you. We'll give you reasons to start saying yes and share the stories of the CONQUERing community that will inspire you to chase after what you want.

What is a Yes Mindset?

When it comes to saying yes, you need to reframe your mindset to feel comfortable taking risks. This means you need to push your fears aside and accept new opportunities when they come.

There will always be reasons to turn something down. You're too tired, you don't have enough time, there are monetary risks, and a number of other obstacles can convince you not to do something. While your fears and concerns are valid, you shouldn't allow them to be the reason you don't accept what you want.

A yes mindset means you take chances, even if you don't have the skills or resources to back them up. It doesn't mean you're letting people take advantage of you, it means you finding the courage to say yes to what you really want.

What is the Psychology Behind Saying Yes?

Believe it or not, there are mental benefits to saying yes. Our minds typically associate saying yes with positive feelings. Usually, it means you're trying something new or doing something exciting. Saying yes can give you a boost of positive energy.

It also encourages you to step out of your comfort zone. When you get stuck in a routine and find it hard to deviate, you can end up feeling stagnant. This can lead to feelings of depression and contribute to feelings of indifference towards your life.

What follows from saying yes is where the true mental benefits lie. It give you a renewed excitement about life. Saying yes can help you develop meaningful connections with others, learn new skills, find a job that you love, and live in a city where you start to thrive. It gives you control over your life.

What Does it Mean to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone?

Saying yes is really a means to get out of your comfort zone. A comfort zone is where you feel most secure. When you stay there 100% of the time, you might stop growing as a person and feel like you can't accomplish your goals.

Leaving your comfort zone means introducing some stress into your life. It's changing your routine, reframing your mindset, and pushing yourself to experience some discomfort. When it comes time to getting out of your comfort zone, it's important to give yourself grace and return to it when you feel overwhelmed.

Take things day-by-day, pushing your limits a bit more each time to eventually step out of your comfort zone.

How Do You Break Out of Your Comfort Zone? 6 Tips from Empowered Women

We asked the CONQUERing community to share what they do when they need to break out of their comfort zone. They shared their real life experiences and what they've been able to accomplish once they've started taking risks.

If you're looking for advice on breaking out of your comfort zone, check out these 6 tips from the CONQUERing community:

  1. Recognize that discomfort is temporary. Ash recommends that you think about the regret you'll have if you don't do something. Anxious feelings and discomfort are temporary. Regret can last a lifetime.
  2. Avoid asking "what if." Bair said that she doesn't let her doubts get in the way of her dreams. She takes the leap of faith and doesn't let the fear of what could go wrong get in her way.
  3. Ask "what's the worst that can happen." Sacha lives by the Puerto Rican mantra, "No hay peor gestión que la que no se hace" which essentially means, "what's the worst that could happen." When the worst thing that could realistically happen doesn't seem that bad, it seems less daunting to take a risk.
  4. Take things one step at a time. Sami learned she could do anything she puts her mind to when she takes things one step at a time. She worked through her fear of heights and hiked from rim to rim of the Grand Canyon. She was able to do this by training every day and pushing herself further bit by bit.
  5. Think of how you want to remember your life. Ashley is always aware that life is too short. When she's on the fence about doing something outside of her comfort zone, she asks how she wants to remember her life. When she looks back, is it a life full of excitement or a life full of safety?
  6. Get over the fear of embarrassment. Laura puts herself in the shoes of an outsider. She asks herself if she would view someone as embarrassing in whatever she's thinking of trying. The answer is usually no, instead she would view the person as brave.

What these women have been able to accomplish once they step out of their comfort zones is truly inspiring.
