Meet Captain Kate McCue

In August, we launched the Captain Kate Collection. This collection was created in partnership with trailblazer Captain Kate McCue. 

The collection features five different designs all based around the open seas and the admirable qualities that Captain Kate possesses. We are so inspired by Captain Kate's story and hope that after reading this post, you will be too!

Who is Captain Kate McCue?

Captain Kate is the first American woman to captain a mega ship. She spent 19 years in rigorous training before becoming one of the youngest captains ever appointed at the age of 37. 

Her dream of becoming a captain started at a young age. When she was only 12 years old, she went on a cruise with her family that sparked her love for the open seas. She told her dad on that cruise that she wanted to be the Cruise Director and he told her that she could do anything she put her mind to. 

She is now passing that message along to all of the young women following in her footsteps. After achieving the status of Captain, she said, "Women currently only represent 2% of the maritime industry so I quickly realized my promotion meant I had been given an incredible platform...My hope for the future is that those who are coming up the ranks after me will be referred to as 'CAPTAIN' and not 'Female Captain'". 

She has a large social media following where she shared videos of her journeys on the sea, videos of her adorable sphynx named Bug Naked (who has been traveling on the open seas with Captain Kate since she was only 3-months old), and empowering her followers to follow their dreams and believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. 

She also has an FAQ section on her website where she discusses how to become a captain, what the duties of a captain are, all the advice and encouragement she has for others, and everything she has faced while breaking gender barriers in a male-dominated industry. 

This extraordinary woman inspires us everyday to believe that we can achieve what we set our minds to. She is an example of someone who never took "No" for an answer and paved her own path. With CONQUERing's dedication to empowerment, this partnership was a completely natural fit.

You might be wondering what Captain Kate's connection to CONQUERing was that sparked this partnership. Captain Kate actually found CONQUERing on TikTok and left a review that made an impression on our founder and CEO, Tammy Nelson. 

Tammy and Captain Kate formed a fast friendship. The two have shared values of empowering others and bonded over their similar upbringings. Both Tammy and Captain Kate established their dreams at a young age and knew exactly what they wanted to accomplish in their lifetimes. The duo also were both heavily encouraged by their parents to achieve anything they set their minds to. 

Captain Kate's belief that anything is possible aligned seamlessly with CONQUERing's mission to empower people to live their lives with confidence and purpose. We brainstormed how we could work together to spread Captain Kate's message through our designs and the Captain Kate Collection was born. 

The Captain Kate Collection 

The Captain Kate collection features five different designs that all represent different parts of being on the open seas and symbolize the amazing qualities Captain Kate possesses. 

The first design in the collection is "The Skiff" Mosaic Stone Element. "The Skiff" is a painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir that depicts peaceful moments on the water. The mosaic elements are inspired by that painting—representing the blend of land, sea, and sky featured in the painting. This element is a reflection of Captain Kate's own tranquility with her journeys on the sea. 

The second design is the Globe Element. The globe symbolizes Captain Kate's exploration of the world via the sea. The element comes in your choice of Amazonite or Blue Aventurine. Amazonite is a blue-green color that is reminiscent of tropical waters. Blue Aventurine is a deep blue that is reminiscent of the deep, vast ocean. 

The third design is the Green Cultured Sea Glass Rope Bezel Oval Element. This element features sea glass which is made by broken pieces of glass in the ocean that have been smoothed over time by the tumbling action of waves and sand. It is also a symbol of renewal and healing. 

The fourth design is the Abalone Shell TwinPoint Crystal Element. This element is in the shape of a crystal tower but with a point at both ends. This crystal is associated with protection, emotional balance, tranquility, harmony, and clairty. 

The final design is the Compass Rose Element. The compass rose has been used by sailors to navigate the open seas for a long time. It represents Captain Kate's adventurous spirit, leadership, and ability to steer through challenges with grace and confidence.
