In the last couple of years, charm jewelry has returned to popularity. From charm bracelets to charm necklaces, people are expressing who they are through their charm jewelry.

We are so thrilled to see the return of this trend. Self-expression is integral to our brand—our interchangeable fidget jewelry gives people the ability to show off who they are based on the elements they choose to wear that day.

Being able to express yourself using one piece of fidget jewelry is great, don't get us wrong. But we wanted to take things a step further. That's why we just launched a new line of charm products so you can make your own charm jewelry with CONQUERing! Check out the CharmBar Element and the CharmDisc Element to get started with CONQUERing charm jewelry.

What is the Purpose of Charm Jewelry?

It may seem like charm bracelets and charm necklaces popped up all of a sudden. Pop-up charm jewelry brands seem to be everywhere and everyone seems to be wearing charm jewelry.

Charm jewelry actually has a long history dating back to Ancient Egypt. The Ancient Egyptians used charms in their jewelry to protect from evil. The Romans used charms to signify their religious beliefs. It wasn't until Queen Victoria's reign that charm jewelry became fashionable and sentimental.

In the present day, charm jewelry is used to showcase who we are. You pick charms based on who you are and what is meaningful to you. Charm jewelry can be used as a conversation starter to get to know someone. If you see someone wearing a charm bracelet or a charm necklace, ask them what their charms mean to them. You'll leave that conversation with a new perspective of who that person is.

Charm jewelry can also be used as a way to remember the people you love. You can get charms that symbolize the people in your life. You could get your mom's favorite flower, your dad's favorite sport, or something that represents an inside joke between you and a friend. You could even get a locket and add a picture inside.

At its core, charm jewelry is a form of self-expression. From style to meaning, everything about charm jewelry is completely custom. No two charm bracelets or necklaces are the same (unless you purposefully make one that is the same with a friend).

How Do You Wear Charm Jewelry?

There isn't really one specific way you should wear charm jewelry. A lot of it is based on your personal preferences. We have a few tips and tricks that can help guide you as you begin to build your own!

Pick a Base

The first thing you'll need to decide is what your base will be. Do you want to have a charm bracelet or a charm necklace? Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry? How many charms do you think you'll want to add?

Once you've decided what you'd like your base to be, you can then start to think about how you'd like to customize it.

Pick your Charms

The next think you'll want to do is pick your charms. You could decide to stick with charms that are the same metal as your base, or you could decide to mix metals and spice things up.

You'll also want to think about what you want to say with your charms. Do you want to share some of your hobbies? Your favorite sports team? Where you're from? Maybe you do want your jewelry to be sentimental and you'll choose charms that symbolize things and people that mean a lot to you.

Assemble your Charm Jewelry

Once you've picked out your charms, all you need to do is assemble. This is where things can get a little tricky. We would recommend laying out the order you want your charms to go in before you start attaching to your base. Some things to consider as you're putting your charms in order:

  • What charms are most important to you? You'll want to put the charms that are most important to you in the center and build from there.
  • Do any of your charms have color? If you chose a lot of charms with colors, you'll want to consider how certain colors will look sitting next to each other.
  • Does it matter what side of your charm is outward facing? A lot of charms are double-sided and it doesn't really matter which way you put them on. However, some charms are single-sided and it will matter if you accidentally put it on backwards.

After you lay out your charms in the order you'd like them, it's time to put them on your base. If you chose a bracelet, make sure you're attaching the charms so they're facing down towards your fingers. This way they won't appear upside down to someone who is looking at your bracelet (unless you prefer your charms to face you.)
